Accutane and alcohol both of the potential for hepatic toxicity and for that reason are best not used in combination. There is little specific evidence about exactly how toxic combination is but it’s certainly better to air on the conservative side when making a decision about using Accutane alcohol. Many patients who use Accutane are under the legal age for drinking alcohol and this may not be a concern for them.

Accutane does not generally have any other direct problems with use of alcohol. A theoretical concern of drinking alcohol while using Accutane is that the psychologic Accutane side effects including depression, psychosis, and suicidal ideation might be made worse by alcohol and good decision-making might be impaired by alcohol. In theory this could lead to increased suicidal risk in patients on Accutane who ingest alcohol especially alcohol large amounts.

For these reasons the patient using Accutane is likely best to avoid drinking alcohol.
