There are many issues with this flouroquinoline toxicity associated with this drug and others in this class. There are many lawsuits pending against the manufacturers for tendon tears and other issues. It’s important to let you doctor know that you were given this drug and are experiencing these side affects. I too have been “floxed” as the saying goes and at the age of 50 have suffered many of these side effects. Don’t let your doctors or pharmacy allow you to be prescribed this class of drugs.

About a month ago I was prescribed Levaquin for acute bronchitis, sinus infection, ear infection and possible strep throat. I was on it for 10 days. During that time, my right shoulder started to hurt. I thought it was just from laying on my right side so much. Don’t think that’s why anymore. I still have noticible pain whenever I move it…it feels as if it is slipping out of the socket and then back in…not pleasant. Haven’t reported this to anyone at this point. The doc that prescribed it works at an Immediate Care center….never saw him before and probably won’t ever see him again. Wondering if I need to notify him of these symptoms anyway. Also wondering if I can expect these symptoms to go away eventually.

Hi Judy –

Im really sorry about your shoulder pain. I have it too and it is really disheartening. Its really painful and debilitating. Ive taken the levaquin before for an intense allergy related respritatory infection and it took care of the infection in no time flat. My tendonitis that I got from the Levaquin took 2 years to go away. It also went away so slowly that
I didnt notice that it had gone away. I had gotten to the pont to where I thought it was going to be permanent. Naprosyn, 500mg helped quite a bit for the shoulder pain. And also for anyone out there who goes to the chiropractor – dont EVER let a Chiropractor offer to “Adjust” your shoulders. Its a quack move and will severely pinch and damage the ulner nerve and you will have an extended long term (years) bout of painful tendonitis. You’ll definitely be sorry. Good Luck. I know its really terrible.

I was also taking Livaquin for sinus infection and UTI about a month ago. While I was taking it, I noticed my right shoulder started hurting and then my feet. I thought maybe it was just because I was sick. I finished my medication for ten days but my sinuses were not getting any better and I was feeling even more tired. Then I woke up in the middle of the night with pain in both arms and fingers. I was so worried, I thought I was having a stroke or something. I went back to my doctor and told her evrything I was feeling and she said, I was having side effects from the Livaquin. So she prescrived me Naproxen for the pain. Today I noticed a couple of bruises in my body and some tiny rashes in my arms and I\’m itching some.It really makes me so mad why this is happenning to me. If I only knew that Livaquin can cause all these I would not have taken. I hope my pain will go away.

I, too, am experiencing right shoulder, elbow, wrist, and finger pain after taking Levaquin for 10 days for bronchial and sinus infection. I am 62 and super healthy and fit. The pain started about 5-6 days into the 10 days and I really didn’t think about it being a side effect from the drug at that time; I was just glad to be getting over the infection. Because I am so active, I though I had done something while tending my horses, but the pain is increasing even 3 days after completing the prescribed 10 days. Painfully frustrating … and debilitating this normally super-active artist-photographer, gardener, and grandmother to 8! I hate taking any kind of pain med, but if this does not decrease soon, I might have to. Grrrrrr!
