I too, had a miserable cough for months and was dry heaving 6-8 times a day. It was not until a very frightening moment , when I was unable to breathe, that I called my doctor. What angered me most was that he had heard the cough and my complaints and prescribed antibiotics which did nothing. I have stopped taking lisinopril for about 3 weeks now and the cough and gagging are subsiding, but are not totally gone. I do not see the doctor again for two weeks and do not know what he will change to, but I think all Ace Inhibitors will be bad for me. |

My husband been on Lisinopril for over 2 yrs and his doctor wasn’t even worry about his coughing fits even tho they were to the point of him passing out and wouldn’t drive any more. Finally found a cardio doctor that was the first thing he noticed and put him on Losartan instead. He still has his fits but not so sever that he can’t breathe at night and is back driving again. I never heard of coughing being a side effect. |

I took this for a while and developed a severe cough. I get bronchitis a lot and thought that’s what I had so I tried all these bronchitis medicines with no help. It became hard to walk up steps. Cough was so bad it was incredible. My Doctor and I finally figured out it was this drug. I stopped it and the cough stopped also. |

No More Cough |
You are so right about the miserable cough as a side effect of lisinopril. I coughed for over a year before my I saw my family doctor who knew in a minute the cause and switched me to an ARB. It took weeks but now my BP is great and no more coughing. I wish my cardiologist has noticed that I was coughing every 2 minutes during my visits with him, or that she had asked warned me about this side effect. Who thinks of a cough as a side effect of a medication. I think of a virus, allergy or bacterial infection, but who would think of lisinopril. Anyway I’m much better off now that my med has changed and since my ARB went generic last year I can afford groceries too. |

Angiotensin Receptor Blockers, (ARBs), are medications that block the action of the angiotensin II chemical, (which cause the muscles in your blood vessels to swell, constricting normal blood flow, which can lead to hypertension, or high blood pressuere), by preventing angiotensin II from binding to angiotensin II receptors on blood vessels. As a result, blood vessels enlarge (dilate) and blood pressure is reduced. |

I am stunned. I have been on lisinopril 10mg since 2003, and never thought I had any side effects. Maybe I didn’t before. This year I started having stomach problems after always bragging that I had a cast iron stomach. Was this acid reflux?lactose intolerance?ulcer?food allergy?old age? I’m 63. I considered all of these and discussed them with a physician. Then came THE COUGH. I also had a post nasal drip that sometimes made me vomit. I went off lisinopril about 7 days ago on my own because I decided I would rather drop dead from high blood pressure than cough anymore. I also have total body aches(new) total loss of energy and strength, leg pain. I blamed arthritis for everything until today. I have a doctor appointment tomorrow, so I will let you know what he says. All I know is I’m off medicine. |

Took lisinoprol for 10 months; trying to save money. Incessant cough started after 6 months; severely affecting work and sleep. My pcp ( who had prescribed it) sent me to an allergist. He treated me for allergies, which I do have and asthma, which I now know I don’t have.u attempt to save cost me and my insurance thousands. Now that I have been on an ARB again for onto, the cough is almost gone. I also feel much better. I was sleeping 20 hours on my day off and had no energy at all . Was getting depressed and cut my work hours back. Could not see how I could possibly work 7 more years til my retirement. Now, mt sleep is normal, mt energy has returned and my depression is gone! This class of drug cost me a lot of money and decreased quality of life! Never have had such a bad experience. |

Just started Lisinopril on June 16 2011. The only side effect I am having with this medication is the horrible cough to the point of my husband said enough! From everyones comments here and everywhere else in regards to this medication is…It is new out there and we are the guinea pigs for it. I would quit it now if I could but I am having elective hand surgery in a few days and my numbers need to be stable for it but after that I am demanding a change as well. Good Luck to you all |

I had this medicine for along time and since then I had this coughing problem. It will come and go. But it got worse the last few months. I cannot sleep. I keep coughing when I am at work. This really bothered me . Ive gone to allergy doctor and told me that it could be ARD (Acid Reflux Disease). My doctor gave me medicine for ARD. But didnt help at . At one time I stopped all my medicine. And to my surprise. My coughing just somewhat slowed down. And I asked my wife who is nurse to ask a doctor in their facilities what could it be and suggested it could be that medicine. So I remove this from the medicine am taking and I feel a lot better now. I still cough once in awhile but not as it was before. Damn that medicine. |

Thank all for sharing your informations. I have been taking Lisinopril for five months and I get the bad cough since then, especially during the night. I thought It was the cold I got from people. Now I know the real reason. I need go back to my doctor to ask another BP medicine. |

I have been on lisinopril for many years now. For the last six months, I\\\’ve had a persistent cough that had nothing to do with allergies, or bronchitus. Today, my doctor had a brainstorm and took me off it. I\\\’m hoping for the best and will return with my results. |
