Well I’ve been taking 10mg for 2 months and I too have developed a cough (currently coughing as I type) which is annoying. Not sure other than water what there is to do for it. Other than that I don’t have any ED like some of the other posts have reported I also take a one a day vitamin a cholesterol pill and vitamin D. I’m 47 and feel alot better than I did 2 months ago prior to starting on Lisinopril…Thats All |

I am so glad i looked up side effects of lisinopril, I thought i was falling apart.I have been on this for a month now not realizing what was happening to me was from lisinopril. I have cough witch makes my heart race and feel weak.Dri eyes that was driving me crazy. Bright red rash and itching when i get up in morning, because i take this med. when i go to bed . NO MORE. I’m so thankful i looked this up .I have been on Atenolol for years with no side effects but Dr. seemed to think i needed this also. I am 74 years old and don’t need all this worry that something else is wrong, and here it is Lisinopril causing all the problems. Thank you for your thoughts on this. |

The funny thing is the doctor told me that this could happen, and also knowing that I already have asthma went ahead and gave the Lisinopril to me anyhow… |

my mother almost died tonight because she was on this drug. she had angio-edema twice in the last few months but her doctor didn’t tell her that this was a side effect of this drug. her symptoms were a very swollen mouth the first two times. today, she had almost a full anaphylactic shock where her throat was closing-the hospital saved her life by putting a tube down her throat in time and she never lost oxygen flow. I am disappointed that her doctor didn’t warn her about this after the first two episodes but thankful it was caught in time. If you get swelling once PLEASE discontinue this medicine-the second time may kill you. |

Coughing Fit |
I sure do wish I had seen this forum. I began taking lisinopril in June 2011. I never would have imagined that this med was the cause of my coughing fits. The coughing fits initially began occurring in the wee hours of the night. Then about a week or two ago they began happening any time of the day or night becoming progressively worse each day. I went to the doctor last week and was prescribed Macardis HCT. I went back this week because the Marcardis was not controlling my hypertension, the doctor prescribed Diovan. The coughing fits have subsided since being taaken off Lisinopril. If only I could do something about this profuse sweating. |

I have recently learned about the side affects and have unfortunately been taking this drug for a year. I’ve had a terrible cough and returned to my dr numerous times but he always treated me for sinus or allergies. I recently moved and went to a new dr and found out the problem is lisinopril. It has definitely affected my qualilty of life and my performance on my new job. My advice is never take another pill! |

Like all of you, I have been taking Lisinopril for the past five days. While I may not have the annoying cough many of you refer to, I have been experiencing extreme abdominal pain, lightheadedness/dizziness,reflux, and diarrhea. I am considering stopping this medication. Also, I have been dieting and exercising which somehow make these effects feel worse. Screw this medication, I am concerned about my health, but none of us should be made to feel like crap when on this medication. |

I have been taking this Medication off and on for the pass two now going on three months, only because i hate taking any medication if i feel i don’t need to. but for the last month I have been taking it every day, only because my doctor don’t want me to be hospitalize due to an illness i went through two years ago, and due to that i already, as have this daily cough, but now it seems to be more as well as the toes hurting and my dry mouth, all the other things that some of you are going through i haven’t. I am so trier of this cough i have loss sleep because of it and I hate losing sleep. With that I’m hearing here I will be going to see my doctor and getting this change I take 10 mg. Thanks everyone for the needed information and all this time I was thinking it was the illness I had, both my lungs were fill with fluid and also cause me to have BP I don’t sick much at all and take no medication but Aleve for and pain now and then, but thanks again. |

What I was wondering, because Uncle Google isn’t giving me any answers, is whether going OFF this stuff produces I decided to get off this and Zoloft because one or both of them were making me super sleepy to the point where it was annoying as hell. I slowly decreased the Zoloft (Sertraline) for 2 weeks (half dose daily, then half dose every other day) and then figured I was good-to-go and quit taking the half doses. About 3 days later I developed any annoying caffeine withdrawal headache, my eyes got fuzzy to the point where i thought i should see an optometrist and get my prescription changed. Then the dizziness, and loss of equilibrium kicked in and I seriously thought I was having a major brain malfunction. Decided to look up the side effects of Zoloft withdrawal and lo and behold they’re all listed. I went though 6 more days of hell of feeling like my brain was swimming inside my head every time I turned my head. Then like a lightbulb (not subsided) it finally went away. I’ve been symptom free and energetic and wide awake again for about 2 weeks now. I decided to also go off the Lisinopril as well when I started weaning from the Zoloft. Well, now, suddenly I’m feeling like my feet are on fire. They have swollen up and feel tight as if I was on a 10 hour plane ride. And my fingers started to itch and burn like my feet. Being paranoid after the withdrawal symptoms from the Sertraline, I’m wondering if I’m now experiencing a side effect of stopping the Lisinopril. I was only on 5mg and before taking it had no symptoms of blood pressure problems whatsoever (other than a moderately high bp reading). Does anyone know if there are side effects to watch out soon after you’re no longer taking it? I’m thinking this is not a symptom of high blood pressure but something directly related to the drug itself. I really wish that the doctors and the pharmacists would highlight the WITHDRAWAL symptoms before they suggest you go on this crap to begin with. They give you the list of symptoms to watch out for while still taking the meds, but nothing that prepares you for quitting any of this crap! |

I agree that stopping the drug causes the symptoms. Ever since I started taking linsinopril my skin became mottled looking. I kept checking my blood pressure and it was fine so I decided to see what would happen it I weaned off it. For two weeks I cut the pills (20mg) in half. I checked my blood pressure;it was fine. The problem right now is that my feet are swelling and I’m in pain. I have found that massaging them helps. Withdrawing from linsinopril seems to cause blood circulation problems in the extremities. Right now I’m working on getting off of this stuff. My latest theory is that they don’t give you a list of what to watch out for when you stop taking this stuff because they don’t want you to to stop taking it. Hang in there! |

Lisinopril 10 mg. for almost a year. One a day. Slight dry cough. Not a major problem so far – irritating and it occasionally is more severe and disruptive. It is reallly helping my bp though. What helps is HALLS METHOLYPTUS drops. They really help. I keep by bed and you can take any time. Try it. |

I have a dry cough too. It’s nothing major. However, having your feet turn into aching balloons when you simply reduce the dosage for me is major. I mean, what is this stuff and how is it affecting the rest of my body? When I was first prescibed this stuff my blood pressure was a borderline 140/90. I was under a lot of personal stress at the time so maybe an elevated blood pressure was to be expected. The only thing I know is that I would rather have “high blood pressue” than risk being in a situation where I don’t have access to this medication and having my entire body turn into a pain-filled blimp. |

Yes…RUN! I was on Lisinopril for about 3 weeks and had the “cough” almost immediately. Several times I felt a rapid heartbeat and a pounding in my neck. Late last week I started to get tense in my shoulders and by the next day I could not even move my neck and had intense pain up into the back of my head. Had a severe headache, 102 temp, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, and a slight rash. Went to the ER thinking it could be meningitis. Well, thankfully no, it was an allergic reaction to LISINOPRIL. I now have full blown hives from my neck to the bottoms of my feet and even the palms of my hands! It’s 5 days later and I’m on the mend thanks to Prednisone and Benadryl. However I still feel like I got hit by a bus. |

I began 10 Mg Lisinopril in April 2005 after my CABG (3x by-pass surgery) in addition to Labetolol 10 Mg 2 x a day to control my high BP. In Jan 2012 my cardiologist raised the Lisinopril to 40 Mg and dropped Novasc(generic = Amplodine. |

Hi, I have taken lisinopril for 7 years. I too experienced the cough and more times than I care to remember, coughed throughout the night. I recently changed my diet and reduced the consumption of dairy, sugar and alcohol sugars in sugar free gum. I also don’t drink alcohol. I don’t cough anymore and found that although this medicine can trigger a cough, it’s the sugar buildup in the esophagus that creates the environment for inflammation and mucus. I feel much better and maybe one day, might not even need the lisiniprol. Drop the sugar, check for added sugars and you will see a huge difference in the cough and other side effects of this medicine. |

Been taking Lisinipril for about 15 years. Never any issues. Has lowered my BP to normal. Works like its supposed to. Only thing remotely related to any side effect is mucus in the throat and I’ve gotten used to that for the most part. I take 20 mg. per day. |

I began coughing as soon as I started taking this drug, but the absolute worse side effect was the one that drove me out of my mind: Horrible, horrible, horrible excessive secretions from the inside of my lips and cheeks. It was so bad that these milky-white secretions even coated the back of my throat. After 2.5 months and three doctors, I finally put two & two together and determined that it was caused by lisinopril, which I had just started taking when these symptoms appeared. Stopped taking it, and it was almost gone within the week. Coincidence? Don’t think so! This side effect is NOT listed for this drug. By the way, Lisinopril is made from the venom of Brazilian Pit Vipers! Of course, lots of drugs have scarry origins… |
