THis is day 3 of taking 50mg prednisone out of 7 days. Reason for taking it: woke up after a fever from the flu and my eye was paralyzed in an odd spot leaving me with double vision and eyelid drooping (like Bell’s Palsy). After prednisone I didn’t sleep for 1 minute all night. Mind is racing. 2nd night got some sleep but stillnot much. Feelings of despair, angry at husband, all-out bawling my eyes out. Totally NOT RIGHT. I usually LOVE food but I have to force myself to even eat 1/4 of an apple. Not drinking enough at all. Feel the need to crawl into a hole and just wait this all out. On the up-side, my eye is showing improvement.

I am 32 and have just been diagnosed with churg-strauss disease, been on prednisone for 4 days and I am feeling terrible, I have bipolar and i am feeling sooo low! Anyone else have this bad side effect, having difficulty breathing an feeling so very tired.
I have been in hospital 4 times this year with pleurisy so it is not good at all. I am not looking forward to the weight gain, I am on a 4 month course of these drunks and really worried. Anyone have any stories on the long term effects?

Round 2, day 7 here. The last dose will be Christmas Eve and at this point, I am just hoping to get thru the next couple of days without picking any fights. VERY edgy. Its been several years since I have had PMS and oh my God, I do NOT MISS those feelings one bit. I am on a roller coaster of emotions, my face is breaking out and got FAT. Sent text to hubby explaining that I am edge. On a bright note, think all the nasty infections are gone as well as the lingering migraine. Its been a couple of years since my last round with the lovely drug. As with any meds, gotta weigh the benefits and risks and since I was teetering on pnmonia, the side affects are worth it in the long run…..Good luck to all!

My mom was taken to the hospital because she was having trouble breathing (she has emphysema). They loaded her up on predisone and gave her a RX for more when she was released. Her cycle at home started at 50 mg for 1 day 19 days on lower dosages.

Life is HELL around her. She is not even rational in her arguments. She is so full of anger and RAGE! It is like there is a split personality there with this one being a physco. The only reason I do not have any fear is because she is 73 and is not mobile. This stuff should be outlawed!

My wife was given a 5 day dosage of 50mg to treat a herniated disk. Immediately I noticed severe mood swings. Approximately 24 hours after her last pill she became severely depressed and attempted suicide. There are significant benefits to this drug but please monitor the psychological side effects and contact your doctor immediately if you notice any suicidal tendencies in yourself or a loved one. Please react immediately, it may save your life of the life of a loved one.

Mental problems caused by prednison were a problem for a long time. Prednisone was taken to control asthma. I was evaluated at the Asthma Clinic and Scripps LaJolla and was told by a endocrinologist there to take Lithium before starting prednisone for asthma. The Lthium levels must be at therapeutic levels before starting the prednisone. I\’ve been doing this regimen for the past 15 years and it works like a charm. No more adrenal insufficiency or negative mental reactions to prednisone.

Prednisone psychosis is well known as a prednisone side effect. I had it and it is VERY frightening. I recommend that nobody take prednisone if they have bipolar disorder like me. It took weeks for me to get back to normal after taking prednisone, and I took it just for a little wheezing and asthma. Definately a bad mistake.
