I was put on prednisone when I was about 10 years of age. Up until then I had only been given cough syrup. I am now 54 and my body on produces minute amounts of prednisone so I have been unable to go off it. I have found out that I have osteoporous mostly from the prednisone but also from the anti convulsive medicines I took over the years. My skin is very thin and bruises easily. The strength I enjoyed in my youth has disappeared. Even though I am an avid milk drink and take vitamin D daily. I have also found out I have P.I.D. which stands for primary immune disorder. They are not sure how long I have had this but it may have been most of life since some of signs is tiredness and I have always been tired and failure to thrive. When in hospital in my childhood the Dr.’s tested me because I was so small they thought I had my age wrong. Hence failure to thrive. Why was something not done to help me. I suffered constantly from asthma attacks and being made fun of for being tired and having seizures and never being able to get or maintain a job. I would just like some answers. Did my life have to be so hard. |

I was just diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lymes Disease. Went to doctors yesterday and he started me on 20mg of Prednisone a day…. He said I will at least be on it 3 months or longer…. I am a little scared about the long term side effects…. I started the med last night and had a couple hours sleep before I could not sleep anymore…. Then dosed back off just to wake up sweating…Is that normal? The doctor told me to take my first dose last night then start taking it in the morning …. It might help me sleep at night…. What else should I look out for? Mood swings? am I only going to feel cranky or should I worry about it? Is there an alternative drug then? If anyone has any feed back please let me know…. |

I’ve been on prednisone for 7 days now and it eased up my migraine headaches. I have more energy and feel great but when I go off the steroids the headaches come back. This is just the second round of this medication that I’ve taken but it works better than narcotics to ease my pain. I would worry about the side effects if I took it for a longer period of time. |

Well, I’ve been off prednisone 50mg (1x day for 7 days)for a day and a half now. I was really looking forward to no longer being light headed, thumping heart, jittery, tiring at just the thought of moving. Unfortunately, it seems like it’s going to take a while for the side effects to wear off. How long has it taken others to feel normal again? I was only on it for a week and didn’t wean off. THis drunk/stoned feeling just HAS to go … need to be able to drive again! On the up side …. the drooping eyelid is totally back to normal and the “frozen” eyeball which for lack of a better word was “out of alignment” seems to have settled back to where it should be. I’m so grateful! I feel so incredibly sad for those of you who have to be on prednisone for a long time and are having the same side effects … it’s absolutely disabling. |

My dad had ordered prednisone for my asthma if I have any really bad asthma attacks, I told him not to order it to begin with and to order Pulmicort inhailer instead. But I made the mistake now of taking prednizone long term and I think that is why I am now twitching in many places, and now I have hives, or red bumps all over my left arm, and a swollen limph node under my left armpit. I think that Prednizone as a medicine should be banned after reading all the side effects people have after taking it. |

Prednisone has been a very useful drug to me. Had NPC (nose cancer) some 15 years ago and undergone both chemo and radiotheraphy. the radiotheraphy side effect to my ears were felt about 5 years after the last treatment. ENT says nothing he could do, as I lost my hearing completely on the left ear. But he prescribed Prednisone for a 2 week course. In just 3 days, my hearing was restored. but this recurs about once every 2 years since and each time, after 2 days of Prednisone, hearing restored. positive side effect while on this: sinus problem completely vanished (but returns not longer after stopping). pimples anc acnes vanished as well (and similarly comes back after that). negative side effect: voice gets hoarse and unable to speak loudly (again, only for the duration of the treatment). Recently, had eye rashes which do not go away despite eye drops and ointment, a quick dose of 2 tablets gives complete relief (the irritation to the eyes causes sleepless nights). From my experience, this seems to be a very useful drug. Usual consumption / treatment I applied, do not exceed 5 days and so far, not more than twice a year. From experience, the restoration of my hearing when ENT (3 of them) says there is nothing medical science can do to restore the nerves, is a miracle drug. |

I have been on Predisone for nearly 45 years. Since I had my first kidney transplant at the age of 15. I had a break from it in 1980 between transplants (5 months) I have been on around 15 mg since 1980. Side affects are many skin leasions that some have turned into skin cancer. Basil and squamious cell. I have thin skin and bruise easy. I probably won’t be alive if it waa for my medicines! Last kidney transplant now 31 + years……. |
