Prednisone Dosage

Prednisone is a corticosteroid that is synthetically created in the laboratory and has many uses. Corticosteroids are made in the body primarily in the adrenal gland, and have many uses such as controlling salt and water balance, stress management and in the modulation of the inflammation response. Prednisone is not an active medication; it is converted to the active form prednisolone in the liver. Prednisone dosage depends on the purpose of the medication, as an anti-inflammatory or as an immunosuppressant. In general short courses of prednione, even in high prednisone dosage do not require a prednisone taper, but when prednisone is taken for periods longer than 3 weeks a taper in the prednisone dosage may be required.
