I’ve been on simvastatin 80 mg for couple of years and my cholesterol is great and I’ve had no problems from this medication. My doctor tells me it’s okay to stay on this dose because I’ve been on it safely for while but I’ve read that the FDA has put out a warning against simvastatin 80 mg and am skeptical about continuing this dose. When I was on simvastatin 40 mg my LDL was 150 but on simvastatin 80 mg is down to 125 which seems a lot better. Is anyone else out there staying on simvastatin 80 mg and feeling comfortable?

I was taking 10/40 mg of Vytorin and had numerous serious side affects, ie: at one point my BP was as low as 43/38. with leg cramps, breathing problems, extreme fatique, muscle aching etc.. I was switched over to 5 mg of simvastatin and now am having a serious problem with constipation (4 – 5 days) followed by diahhrea. As the constipation is finally breaking up I don’t dare leave the house because of the immediate following with diahhrea.
It is obvious that when this medication is prescribed the patient should be advised of all of these side affects and closely monitored, and questioned regularly.

The up side of all of the downsides is that my cholesterol level went from 265 down to 117 over a 2 to 2 & 1/2 year period of time
